Engagement, Kyung and Alison

When’s the big day:  June 22, 2012

How did he purpose?

Kyung proposed on the evening of Wednesday, December 7th. I was kind of expecting it, but I really wasn’t expecting it on that particular night.
Kyung and I usually talk every morning as we are both driving to work, and we talked that morning as usual. Little did I know, Kyung was not on his way to work. He was actually parked a few streets down from my house, waiting for me to leave so he could start the engagement preparations at my house. He took the time to make me a scrapbook of the past 5-6 years we’ve spend together complete with scrap booking cutouts and stickers. He also bought me two orchid plants (my favorite flower) and he had his mom make one of my FAVORITE Korean snacks-Kimbap (it’s basically korean sushi) and I have been known to be greedy whenever I get some. I don’t like to share my kimbap! lol.
I called Kyung on my way home from work as usual. Since I have a longer commute than Kyung, he usually hangs up when he gets to his house and then we talk again after dinner. We went through our normal routine, only this particular night, Kyung called me back before I was home and said he wanted to meet up for dinner. He told me to call him when I got closer to home, but he called me back shortly after asking where I was. Anyone who knows Kyung, knows he isn’t the most patient person in the world, so that in itself didn’t tip me off.  I told him I was getting close to the exit and asked him if I should pick something up for dinner. He said not to.I then told him I was going to stop for gas, but again, he told me not to. This is when I started getting suspicious. I pass about three gas stations on my way home, so it didn’t make sense for me not to stop. I started asking questions and Kyung is a terrible liar. At this point, I was pretty sure he was at my house and I started thinking he must be proposing. We hung up, and I started thinking, “I hope it’s not tonight! I’m having a bad hair day, I have a huge zit on my chin, it’s a week night…etc. etc.
When I pulled up to my house, his car was not there, but as I went to open the door, I heard the deadbolt unlock from the other side. I opened the door and he was there with a display of the scrap book, the flowers, the kimbap and lit tea light candles spelling out the words, “Will You Marry Me?”. It was adorable, but he hadn’t had a chance to light all the candles…I should have stopped for gas, but Kyung was worried the house would burn down! LOL!
Kyung then proposed and I said yes! We then finished lighting the candles for a pic. Lol.

Your idea of a perfect date?
Kyung: good food and desert (superman ice cream)
Alison: My idea of the perfect date actually is just spending time with Kyung. I know, corny! It’s true though. I honestly don’t care what we do. I just have fun being with him. I think that is the best part about finding the person that’s right for you is that it doesn’t matter if you go to fancy restaurants, get dressed up anymore. You   can just sit on the couch and watch tv in your sweatpants because you just enjoy being together. As Kyung said, he does love his superman ice cream. Lately, we have been walking to downtown royal oak to get the superman ice cream from Astoria. We are regulars there! I usually just want the single scoop, but Kyung insists that we both get the double scoop so he can have his and the rest of mine! Lol.
What are you looking forward to the most about your wedding day
Kyung: to be finally over (no more planning, etc.)
Alison:  I’m looking forward to celebrating with family and friends. Kyung and I have been through a lot together. We know we love each other, but I’m excited to share that with the people we are closest to
What is the one place in the world you would love to go to?
Alison:  The one place in the world I would love to go is actually Korea. Kyung and I are both Korean, but since I was adopted at a very young age, I don’t remember anything. Spending time with Kyung and his family has taught me a lot about the Korean culture and I’ve really enjoyed the food! I’d love to take a trip to Korea to explore everything and find out more about that side of my background.

LOL, nice try Kyung. AKA, the guy/one set of feet in the photo, who gets an “A” for trying to get more sneak peaks out of me.
